EMDR (EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING)

EMDR is a type of psychotherapy that aims to transition upsetting (often labeled traumatic, distressing, or disturbing) memories or experiences from a stuck point or “frozen in time” experience to a more integrated and positive or neutral place. This link from the EMDRIA website is a great written explanation of EMDR. There is also a video from the EMDRIA website if you are a visual learner or want more information on the treatment.

I love utilizing EMDR to explore and process the following experiences:

-birth trauma

-infertility/IUI/IVF experience

-pregnancy and postpartum experiences

-complex trauma

-insecure attachment styles

-imposter syndrome

-racial grief and trauma

Who can benefit from EMDR?

Do you ever feel like you're in an argument in the present but you feel like you're having an argument you had 5, 10, or 15 years ago? Do you feel like your response is disproportionate to the present event that might be triggering some deeper wound? Are you re-living an upsetting memory? You start talking  and suddenly your body starts shaking, your palms get sweaty, you feel out of body, you shut down emotionally, your heart races? you feel as though the event is re-occurring in that moment? If so, you are dealing with some unresolved trauma. EMDR is an incredibly effective and powerful tool to move through and heal past traumas.
